Ellis Park
Here is the world infamous Ellis Park in Johannesburg, South Africa. This Stadium was made popular by the hit movie “Invictus” which replays the events of the 1994 Rugby World Cup and how the springboks overcame all the controversy surrounding them and won the tournament and in essence began the healing process for the people of South Africa. Great movie, I highly recommend it.
But more often than not Hollywood depicts the romantic stories and leaves out the tragedies. I took the image below and I researched it way after; on 11 April 2001 in soccer match between two local rivals roughly 50 people were crushed to death when the crowds kept on crawling into the stadium while the security forces weren’t capable of holding them back. It seems that there was some controversy to what truly transpired, here is a link from wikipedia
It hardly feels right to “like” this post, though I did. I like it in a “I recognize what your work and thank you for sharing this story” way.

Good of you to point out and commemorate the tragedy, but Invictus was awe inspiring. The good, the bad and the ugly…

Thanks… I haven’t forgotten about the HDR info… I’ll pass it along over the weekend, swamped in my real job 🙂

Not a problem. I’m not in any hurry. Pretty swamped myself to be thinking about trying something new.
