Today is an end of an era, my cousin’s time in the US is up as he leaves San Diego for good. He is heading back home to Sweden after earning his Bachelors in Business, I always knew he’d leave after graduating but I was hoping he would stick around for a bit longer. This is a portrait of him this past weekend, it was his last day at my place so I let him smoke indoors πŸ™‚ To tell the truth I’ve had this shot in mind for a long time and I procrastinated for too long, I left it until the very last day and I had to go with a quick setup. Anyway, he’ll be missed and I wish him the very best in his future in Sweden…

  1. Good luck to him for his future. An ‘end of an era’ always has a touch of sadness that goes with it – sometimes only a touch, other times a wagon load of it. So, good luck to you too, I can see he’ll be missed. πŸ™‚

  5. Intense is what immediately comes to mind for some reason… This is a fantastic portrait!! One that stays with you and I think it is his eyes.. Wondering what thought crossed his mind as you took this photo.. Again this is great and would classify as one that I would think about framing. I am hoping that someday soon you start posting a few more portraits of people.

    • The pictures was posed, I was directing him through out πŸ™‚ We had about 18 attempts and I’m not really sure if he enjoyed that cigarette πŸ™‚ And my goal for the summer is to work with as many people to improve my portraiture skills… wish me luck πŸ™‚

  22. This portrait is perfect! Love how I can see the smoke trails up his face. What lens and settings did you use for this one and at what distance?

    • I used the 50 f/1.8 (thrifty fifty) and I was about 1-2 ft away, I like to get really close to the subjects. I also think I cropped the image slightly!
