Corporate Bully

**** Update: After a week of playing hard ball with me, in less than 24 hrs of posting this post it was finally removed. I don’t how but maybe social media does work π
Yesterday’s post was about what makes me happy but today’s post is about something that is making me angry! I’m definitely feeling like a small man knocking on the bully’s door and he is refusing to acknowledge me… you’ll notice that I’m adding a little blurb under my images because of this incident. Here is what is going on, sometime last week I wanted to try the google search by images feature by using one of my own images so I dragged it onto the search and to no surprise this blog appears to be on top of the list but right after is the Courtyard by Marriot! When I clicked on the link, there it was the courtyard stole my image and they are using it on their own website without ever getting my permission or compensating me! I contacted them and their web designer and they are not co-operating. The manager said she hears on CNN that people put pictures on the internet and they get used all the time, she doesn’t understand this photo business, thats not her expertise besides I should really contact the web designer! The web designer just refuses to respond to my messages and emails!
Needless to say I’m not happy with this and I feel quite taken advantage of, I’ve had this happen with much much smaller businesses and we managed to work out something but I’ve never dealt with such a giant. I’m even more shocked by the way they are handling the situation. Here is the original image by me on my account:

Here is the original post on this blog prior to me hosting my images on smugmug, and here is the courtyard’s website with my image as the banner!
Sorry to hear that Bashar. Don’t let them get away with this. I would send them a lawyer’s letter.

Definitely look into this. Marriott is a huge corporation with PLENTY of money to compensate an artist who gives them something that helps make them even MORE money.

I didn’t give them the image… they just took it and are denying that its the same! I just have a feeling I’m going nowhere with this… π¦

You can find out if it’s the same image with metadata! Do you pull out all of your metadata? I pull out most of mine, but I insert a copyright into the file that has my name on it. So, the image will always have my name on it–unless they scan it and use it. Then I’m not sure.

Awful experience… and I’m afraid this it won’t be the only one.

I’ve often wondered about this, but no big surprise coming from Marriott… there’s some connection there to the crook who is running for President. π

There are 2 guys running for president π which one are you referring to?

The corporate raider guy, Romney…. the one who favors business and thinks corporations are people and anything they do (steal images) is just OK with him.

I have just looked and your photo isn’t on their banner – did they change it?

Must learn to read the WHOLE post before making out of date comments. Glad it has been resolved Bashar.

How frustrating this must be. A newspaper stole a text of mine once and I wrote emails that never were answered. You should do what you can to make them pay for the use and to list you as the photographer.

This would have me pissed off :(. I am glad it worked out in the end…..

I am sorry to hear that they have pirated your shot – at one stage I got bullied by someone about my watermarks. I changed them but never knew why – perhaps they wanted to use a photo and hid behind the commentary of ruining their viewing pleasure by watermarking! Only a year in, so I am still relatively new to all this! ….but I have to say on a positive note: What an amazing shot!

I’m just surprised that such a large company tried to do this! Thanks for your kind words though π
