Blanket of clouds
Back in February I went to San Clemente with a friend of mine, neither of us have been and we decided to check it out and while at it take some pictures. One of the main photography objectives for me was to take a shot from under the Pier around sunset! Out of the blue a blanket of grey clouds came from the pacific and I knew that opportunity was gone. We decided to call it the day and head back to the car, as we were heading up the hill I turned around for a last view of the Pier and saw the blanket of clouds and I had to take a picture 🙂
PB Pier
An image of Pacific Beach’s Pier in San Diego. This is the unique Pier where its also a hotel for the closer portion of the pier; its a bunch of chalets on the outer edge while the pathway down the middle is open to the public. The remainder of the Pier is just a walkway for the public as the chalets end at one point. You can see the entrance here, check it out its quite funky 🙂
Walking into the Abyss
This is one of those images that turn out better than you expect, I exposed for the girl’s green top and knew that I was going to blow out the background but didn’t think that I would still keep a few elements of the Pier. It gave the feeling that they were walking into infinity, hence the title 🙂
Western White House
It seems that I’m on a mission to explore Southern California as yesterday I made my first visit to San Clemente with a good friend of mine. San Clemente is the most southern town in Orange County before the start of Camp Pendleton, it got its world fame by former US President Richard Nixon. Rumor has it is that he dreaded being in Washington, D.C. and he tried to do as much business as possible out of his San Clemente estate; which was commonly nicknamed as the “Western White House”. Even though this is not the view that his estate would have overlooked, this is the famous “San Clemente Pier” located in downtown San Clemente. Its a really beautiful town, if you’ve never been I would highly recommend a visit. I wanted to take a great sunset shot but it was very apparent that the clouds were coming in and they were going to blank the sky, 15 to 20 minutes after that the sky was completely grey!
Crowded

I’ve been trying to redo the shot below now that I have full frame camera, I wanted to redo it in landscape mode and print it on a canvas that I got from groupon.com. Unfortunately the Pier was crowded with 3 other photographers already setup with all their tripods so I thought I would just add to the mayhem. I ended up walking around UCSD’s campus instead and it turned out quite a good shooting opportunity. Goes to show that when one door of opportunity closes there just another one right around the corner full of other opportunities 🙂
